  Okay, first thing's first. Let's go over the basics to make sure we're all on the same page. Active ACLS certification is required of many medical professionals who deal with patients. ACLS is a combination of theory and techniques to solve or at least treat possible heart-related problems. ACLS courses generally have two different components: a theoretical component which students pass by successfully completing a written exam (normally a combination of multiple choice questions and essay questions), plus a practical exam where students demonstrate their knowledge of specific techniques on mannequins. Once a student has successfully earned their initial certification, it will be valid for a certain period of time, at which point they will need to pass a recertification exam to maintain their active certification.

• The AHA

  Now that that's out of the way, let's talk about the American Heart Association, or AHA, and its role in advanced cardiac courses. The AHA is simply an organization; it is not an official government organization, it does not create or enforce laws, etc. It's just an organization, though it is the most well-known and respected organization in this field. Because of its position in the field, the most stringent requirements for ACLS will generally include AHA approval. This means the courses need to meet all relevant AHA requirements, and once a student passes one of these courses they will receive a real AHA ACLS card. Some medical facilities require their staff to take AHA courses when getting their ACLS certifications, and some do not. • Picking the Best Option

  If it is required, then the online ACLS certification courses will be a less appealing option because you will need to take a live skills test on mannequins in addition to written tests (either online or offline). While the online written tests are generally more convenient because you can take them at any time instead of actually going to a class, you'll still need to schedule and successfully pass a live skills test at an approved facility. Once you do this, then you'll get your card. Now for the good news. There are many other organizations which can accredit or approve ACLS courses. If your employer is okay with classes approved by other organizations and you already have your initial certification, then you may be able to get away with just taking and passing an online class.
